It all started in 2014 when…
we hosted a pop-up dinner at our B&B. She cooked raviolo al uovo, I took photos and we all promptly fell in love. Abby & Steve are the borderline-obsessively-devoted geniuses behind Spencer, the most delicious and inventive restaurant in Michigan. It’s a fact, you can read about it in the New York Times. Their attention to detail, careful ingredient sourcing and the respect they have for the process (the process of what, you ask? farming, cheese-making, grape-growing, wine-making, LIFE.. etc.) is putting Michigan food on the map. We’re just so damn excited to live within driving distance of their Ann Arbor eatery, let alone that we get to call them friends (!!!).
This is all to say, pardon me for over-sharing their wedding weekend. I can’t help it. Every detail was thoughtful and created such joyful memories for their guests. The groom led a musical parade through the woods, down an old fire lane, to usher guests to the most beautiful floral archway. A champagne toast and fresh gougeres were served immediately after the tear-jerking ceremony (officiated by renowned children’s book illustrator & author Phil Stead). A nordic snack bar! A Spencer-cooked menu that sourced 99% of the meal from the farm we all dined on, Green Things Farm. Flower crowns made on-site by the uber talented Sue McCleary from Passionflower. A towering, bee pollen and chamomile-laden cake by Sweet Heather Anne, filled with Abby’s own homemade preserves. I could go on and on but I’ll let the photos do the talking.
